late
this past september i was in arizona for a family reunion. while there i took several trips to joanns and bought a gross amount of fabric. one piece i purchased was really out of my usual comfort zone but the christmas gaudiness really spoke to me. right as i saw it i planned to make a little button up peter-pan collar shirt for eve and a skirt for ruth for christmas. great plan. pregnancy hit me (i'm annoyed to be typing that again, but it's true) and i gave up sewing anything other than what i absolutely had to. but now the "just over half-way done building this baby" stage has hit. i've got energy, and with nothing to watch, i've got time too. but apparently i don't have a logical thought process to rely on. out of over 70 options (no exaggeration), the bundle of fabric i pulled out to turn into a dress on monday was this christmas business. christmas was three weeks ago. but, i went ahead and made the simple dress for eve, a size too big, in gaudy fabric most likely meant for a table runner. and today i'm going to make her wear it to church. good news for her is that even with "lots of boy colored things" on it, she focuses on the lovely subtle sparkle and feels pretty fancy. plus, she gets a bow tied around her waist, and eve loves a bow.
now i just have to hope that nobody asks when i made it. i

better late than never! and i love the fabric. you're a sewing maniac.
it doesn't look too obviously Christmasy to me-- at least not from those pics. What it DOES look like is adorable! You're such a superstar!
I love it! What a crack up, it really was made for a table runner, but much cuter on Eve. I think your photos are looking amazing, excellent job taking the plunge with the new camera.
Do you have patterns for the clothes you make for your girls or do you just wing it? If you do use patterns, can you tell me the names of them? I love them!!
I love it!!
ohh, it turned out so great! now I'm sorry I missed Eve's debut in it yesterday.
It still hits me at times how much she looks like you. SOO cute, and with the animals in hand. You need to try to recreate your holding the apple picture with her, or Ruth, or both, I would love to see that!
i just found your blog after blog hopping. this might be creepy, but i've read a good deal of your posts so far! my husband and i may be moving to NY in the next year and half or so after finishing up school (not something i'm completely excited about, and it might not even happen, but these blogs make me feel better), and so i've been interested in all you new yorkers with blogs. very cute family, and you're very talented with a sewing machine!
Katie! I've been keeping up with all the fun holiday posts and darling things you have been making! Love it all! I think that little dress you just whipped up is terrific! The girls are adorable. What fun you guys are having- Brooklyn is so wonderful and I love reading about the life you're making there. luv, Patria
oh yeah, i was going to say that we got those planet earth dvd's for christmas too and they are incredible!
thanks everyone-
melissa: this is actually a vintage nightgown pattern that i modified. although, i've seen similar patterns around. let me look and i'll e-mail you some places to look. it really doesn't get much easier than this dress.
ashley: if you end up coming to new york after school, be excited about it! the initial transition to life here is rough, but once that passes it is really so great. now that we've been here over six years it is hard to imagine life anywhere else. although i still dream about a back yard and garage of my own. . .
