applesauce
fall in new york means a lot of things to me, all of which are pure magic. but before they really begin to manifest themselves one thing needs to happen. applesauce.
for the fourth year running i made my way over to a dear friend's brownstone and spent eight hours cutting, smashing, cranking, pouring and steaming. by the end of the day we had 72 quarts of applesauce to show for our tired, sweaty selves. my 20 precious quarts of gorgeous pink goodness will be rationed throughout the coming year until the magic begins all over again.

how yummy. oh man. this is reminding me that i was there about a year ago and you had applesauce all lined up on your kitchen table...
that is so funny you use the word magic, I've used that word several times in the last few days, only to be mocked. Life is what you make it I guess. I say.... "magic" (with jazz hands of course). And I am jelous of your apples, I need a good source for apples.
oh man i am so jealous right now. is that Jane's kitchen? homemade applesauce is what autumn is made of. enjoy
i mean janet's kitchen, not jane
yum. not only looks good, but sounds so fun and fall festive. i love apples in the fall. and each year i long for homegrown new england apples...lucky you.
Ooh, I'm jealous, that sounds so good. I didn't get any canning done this year, but I have BIG hopes for next year.
*hugs*
yum

I don't know how I haven't checked your blog in 10 days, but I guess I am preoccupied!! I sooo want to make applesauce, and generally can things, but have yet to invest in the supplies. Remember canning peaches with mom when we were young? Your applesauce is so yummy too! What kind of apples do you use?
jean. i have so many memories of dipping the peaches into the hot hot water and peeling the skins before handing them off to mom. ..
i use cortland apples. (fresh from the orchard if possible!) and i don't use any sugar, just lemon juice and a bit of apple cider. so delicious.
You've been Boo-ed. Come to my site to see what you get.
*hugs*
There's just nothing like seeing those filled jars. I, too, have enjoyed making applesauce this year... and even some apple jelly. Yum.
I LOVE your apple sauce. I kept meaning to make some this fall, but we kept eating our apples up too quickly!
