TO THE CREEPY IMPOSTER

Dear Facebook and Flickr user Makena Becker. you are not me. those photos are not yours. and those children certainly aren't yours either. your creepiness has me reeling. you have five hours to remove all my photos, all my words, and all your really skeevy claims to be someone you are not before i take legal action. you have infringed on my copyright. and i am pretty freakin' ticked off and grossed out by it.

thank you to reader paola for letting me know about this.

i would have loved to keep this a lot more vague and focused more on the idea of creating your own life, how figuring out who you are, little by little, and being true to that potential and the people you love is what makes life really great. and i think the higher road is to maybe leave names off.. but i can't. this is just too weird and violating and there is no possible explanation i can think of where someone would do this "innocently." if you have an idea, i'd love to hear it. i'd love to have something to wet the fury burning in my chest.

until then, i've got a birthday party to prepare for.

also: i have operated this blog the same way i try to live my life- based in faith and happiness and expecting the good rather than fearing and expecting the worst. this is not the worst, but it is really really weird. and i may need to adjust things around here for awhile until i figure this out..

ADDED: dear people (the non creepy ones), i love you. i sincerely do. i wish you were all here in person. i would hug you and thank you, wipe away my angry tears and take you to the park for a big picnic. we'd eat fruit, watch kids run around, soak up the sun and celebrate life (and the fact that the pictures were all taken down! hooray!!). after getting in our fill of spring at the park, you'd help me try to foster a little bit of sympathy and a little understanding for those who do things that aren't right, but then we'd let it go and move on... and after all that i'd try to sucker you into helping me make cupcakes and clean and decorate for tomorrow's party.. i've got a lot to do and am suddenly sooo very tired.

thank you again. truly.

xoxoxo

Dear Katie....i really love your blog, and I really enjoy reading and saw those pics of yours, the kids, the projects and all. It seems like you invite me personally into your house, introduce me to your kids. They are adorable!. And for that creepy imposter...i do feel sorry for her....i mean she/he dream about the live you have, and it turns out she/he wanted to be 'like' you and pretend to be you and the live you live.

yes it's very creepy...i would suggest whoever she/he is to get some help :)

Katie, if you don't want to keep on blogging, that's understandable.. but don't you think you should let your readers know? I mean I've personally checked on your blog like 10 million times since te creepy impostor used your pics and I kind of want to know if you're ever coming back! I mean, that's if you care about the people that love reading about your life/family/crafts. We all miss you! It'd be awesome if you'd come back..

Katie,
I was so horrified when the creepy imposter stole your 'life' and children.
I have been quietly hoping, and checking in, to see if you had decided to start posting again.......please?
I miss your funky crafty ideas & gorgeous things to sew.
You have a lot of fans quietly missing you

Katie, same as above, I really miss your blog. I hope that by writing you'll send me a link to some secret blog and I'll get to see all the fun you've been having since you left this space. Best to you and your family.

Creepy Imposter indeed! I'm sorry to read about your terrible discovery, although it seems it was months ago. As a fellow mom with two very little girls, I can understand how it may have also been a bit frightening. It's a shame that they've not only robbed you of security & trust, but also all of your fans of... well, you. Know that those of us with only innocent intentions do miss you, your inspiring creations, and beautiful photos. If I could send you a cupcake with this post, I would.

Katie, I followed your blog for nearly a year before this happened, and I have checked every day hoping for an update.

Please come back. You are so inspiring to those of us who sometimes need a few uplifting words to get our creativity flowing. Maybe by next March 19 (my birthday!) you'll send us a sweet message?

It is shocking that somebody would do that - but scary how often it happens. I know of at least two other blogger to whom this has happened. I really makes me worry about putting my kid's picture up. But then.... I blog for me and dont' want some idiot to take away my enjoyment aand the interaction I get from all the genuine people out there.

sorry that this happened to you.

Hope you and your family are doing well. All the best.

Hey I had this exact thing happen on my site a few years ago. I was stalked by some nutter for about six months. I ended up posting a post like this and then I found out the IP address of the computer they were sent from them. I then found out the company which was their internet provider in the UK. I phoned them from Australia (where I am) and alerted them that this person was stalking me. I then posted the IP address and information on my site to let the person know that I was onto them. People are stupid if they think they are anonymous on the Net. You can easily trace them to their exact computer. And the provider in UK contacted them and threatened to cancel their account if they didnt stop it. It stopped! It was a tough six months.

Best of luck,

Go Get Em!!!

And I also stopped posting for about six months and just have the courage to really get into it again. It can be seriously frightening. But I am over it now and you will get there too. I hope you are ok!

Just wanted to say I'm only 16 and I'm from the UK but I absolutely adore your blog and I re-read your posts all the time. You are one of the bloggers that really inspired me to get into the whole crafting-blogging world, and I can't thank you enough for your lovely posts.
Chin up, I really hope you regain the confidence to continue soon, x

Just wanted to chime in to and say I check your blog every couple of weeks hoping that you've come back or at least let us know that you and your family are thriving and happy! I too live in Brooklyn with my (smaller) family (same neighborhood I think) and it was so refreshing and inspiring to see the things you whip up for your family and in a challenging (but rewarding) urban environment.

I hope you all are well!
